BREAKING NEWS: Former Clipse Manager Indicted For $10 Mil Drug Ring

By Ismael AbduSalaam Former Clipse manager and nightclub owner Anthony "Geezy” Gonzalez has been charged in U.S. District Court with running a $10 million a year drug ring. According to federal documents, Gonzalez’s 6 year drug empire has allegedly moved 100 pounds of cocaine and over a ton of marijuana through Hampton Roads, Virginia since 2003. Authorities suspect Gonzalez imported the drugs from Panama Florida, California, and Arizona. The 82-count indictment states that Gonzalez laundered drug money through several front businesses, including the Clipse’s booking agency Soul Providers Management. The federal document elaborates that the defendants painted “themselves out as music producers, rappers, entrepreneurs, club owners, clothing designers and other legitimate occupations in order to conceal the true source of their income.” In addition, Gonzalez is accused of making several kingpin transactions, such as purchasing 10 kilos cocaine for $200,000, and 625 pounds of marijuana for $540,000 in 2007. Gonzalez’s Encore Lounge nightclub was allegedly purchased in 2007 for $80,000 and 40 pounds of marijuana. Earlier this year, the Virginia Beach nightclub closed down after a reputed 100-plus incidents of violence and drug transactions in 2008. Six other co-conspirators were named in the 60-page document, including a police officer who allegedly tipped Gonzalez off about the coming indictment. To date, Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez remains at large. At press time, the Clipse could not be reached for comment. InTheMixWithTre’

Guy and Blackstreet reunion?

Veteran R&B/Hip-Hop producer Teddy Riley revealed that two of his most enduring groups - Guy and Blackstreet - are reuniting and preparing new material for release. Riley made the announcement today (April 25) with certain original group members present, during Tony Neal’s 5th Annual Core DJ Retreat in Atlanta, Georgia. Group members Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall, Damion Hall (Guy) and Chauncey Hannibal and Eric Williams (Blackstreet) spoke on a panel during the event. The two groups were speaking to attendees about artist and DJ relations, how to succeed in the music business and the importance of parents teaching their children “real” music. During the course of the panel, Riley, who is A&Ring the music for Salt-N-Pepa’s reality show in addition to the movie Hype Nation, told the packed crowd of industry tastemakers that both groups are working on forthcoming albums. “It took a lot for us to get here,” Riley told the crowd, just before founding Guy member Aaron Hall broke into song.

Both Guy and Blackstreet, will be performing tomorrow (April 26) during The Core DJ Awards, which is sponsored by Akon’s Konvict Music. The Core DJ Retreat started on Friday (April 24) and run suntil Monday (April 27) at the W Hotel in downtown AtlantaThe semi-annual event welcomes all DJ’s regardless of their DJ crew affiliations, to foster education, professional development and networking. Guy was one of the first major groups to mix Hip-Hop sounds with R*B. The group featured Teddy Riley and brothers Aaron Hall and Damion Hall. Riley is credited with the development of a new sound in R&B called “New Jack Swing.” Using this sound, Guy was signed to the now legendary label Uptown Records, which was founded by Andre Harrell.

Uptown, which also launched the career of Sean “Diddy” Combs, counted artists like Mary J. Blige, Heavy D., Jodeci, Monifah, Christopher Williams, Soul 4 Real and Father MC as artists on the roster. Under Riley’s production watch, Guy churned out a string of hits for Uptown, including “Piece of My Love,” “I Like It,” “Let’s Chill,” as well as two multi-platinum albums, Guy (1988) and The Future (1990). Shortly after the success of Guy, Riley branched out and produced hit singles for New Edition as well as Wreckx-N-Effect’s classic “Rump Shaker” in 1992. Riley launched Blackstreet in 1992, shortly after Guy’s break up. The group’s debut album BLACKstreet produced the hit single “Before I Let You Go.” Blackstreet followed up with their sophomore album Another Level in 1996, which contained the #1 hit single “No Diggity,” featuring Dr. Dre and Queen Pen.

Both groups tried their hand at comeback albums in the early 2000’s and toured briefly as recent as 2006.“You can’t beat having Guy and Blackstreet unite for the first time after nine years, in front of 600 DJ’s,” Core DJ Founder Tony Neal told AllHipHop.com. “They have to understand the magnitude of what just happened.”

BATTLE SCARS *Women in the Ring*

Who is it to say that women are too pretty to box?
Is there a fear of seeing women battered and bruised after trading blows for twelve rounds?
These are questions that roam the minds of many fans when it comes to women being featured in this brutal sport. We have not seen women boxers showcased on television or in major venues, and excelling in the sport since Ali, Georgina, Foreman, and Spinks. I am speaking of the daughters, not their fathers whom we all know ruled the sport in their time. Some may say that the only reason why there was a slight demand for women in boxing is because of the accolades of their parents. True fans of women boxing are left with endless channel surfing at odd hours of the night hoping to find a match. Reality television has also tried their hand in bringing light to the fact that there are women out there who are serious and committed to the sport. This is not a fad people. This is a genuine love for the sport. Despite a low demand to see women shine as much as the men, women professional boxers are still following their dreams to excel in the sport. This dream is continuously being fueled by the support of friends, community, trainers, and boxing associations who stand by a vision that if a forum is provided, the demand would be lifted and fulfilled. Just ask our own DMVRADIO.NET’s producer and artist Jah’Nette. On a trip home to New York, Jah’ visited Madison Square Garden to show support for her cousin Melissa Roberts.
Once again on April 18, 2009, Madison Square Garden became electrified with action as New Yorkers cheered fine boxing. Fighters slugged it out Friday night and into early Saturday to gain this year’s title and receive the gold necklace. A few notable finishers among many great matches:
(125-W) Melissa Roberts got the better of trading punches with Chala A. Yancy with Yancy taking multiple hits to the body and head, but fighting back round upon round with an exceptional display of valor and heart until the referee stopped the bout near the end of round 4 for a Melissa Roberts win.
By David Pambianchi Oh, baby! Boxer Melissa Roberts and daughter Maleah prevail
BY Mitch Abramson DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Saturday, March 14th 2009, 9:37 PM When she discovered that her newborn daughter was conceived with a left congenital hernia, Melissa Roberts (Havoc BC) quit boxing and returned to New York from her post in Hawaii with the Marines in 2007. Roberts said that doctors gave her daughter a 15% chance of survival, but through constant hospital care her daughter's condition improved. Roberts said that last Christmas, in what she described as an "act of God," her daughter Maleah was finally released from the hospital with her health stabilized. Now, Roberts is resuming her boxing career after a nearly three-year absence from the ring, and Saturday with Maleah in attendance at the Daily News Golden Gloves, the 22-year-old showed that her skills and determination have not diminished. Showing an impressive body attack, the former top-ranked 125-pound woman in the country gave Katheryne Hernandez (Suffolk PAL) a total of four standing-eight counts in rounds three and four and the 125-pound women's quarterfinal was stopped at 1:57 of the fourth round at the Suffolk PAL in Brentwood, L.I. Roberts was also named the P.C. Richard & Son Boxer of the Night for her performance. "People always ask me if I'm fighting for my daughter," Roberts said with Maleah in her lap. "I tell them that she's already won her fight. Now it's my turn." I am an avid fan of boxing and have been since the age of ten. It is literally in my blood as my grandfather was a middleweight champion. I love boxing and whish that I could see more women featured in the sport consistently, not periodically. I just have two words………..More please!

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY: BLACK WOMEN ARE GENERALLY NOT MAGAZINE COVERWORTHY!!!

April 19, 2009. MediaTakeOut.com just got a hold of a recent interview of actor Matthew McConaughey. In it, Matt made some very QUESTIONABLE comments regarding Black women and magazine covers. Here's an excerpt from the interview:

ELLE: Barbara Walters seemed to be hitting on you during your 2006 interview, which ended with you rubbing her feet. If you’d both been single, might you have let her have her way with you? MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY: I would’ve had to tell those cameras to cut. ELLE: All joking aside…? MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY: Look, I think Anthony Quinn once said, “There’s something wrong with any heterosexual man under 80 if he can’t find an angle with every woman.” There’s a lot of truth to that. ELLE: Any woman you can think of who might not be cover worthy, but whom you find attractive? MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY: Not so specifically, but yeah. And I see it more with black women, who get dressed up and they’re wearing’ everything to fit snug, and they’re walking the walk. And you’re like, Man, look at you go! Where did you get that? She might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how she’s wrapped.

This guy seriously needs to limit the amount of mushrooms and herbs he absorbs because clearly, this dummy has no idea what he just did. Black women everywhere will be giving Matthew an earful. Chat boards, community sites, and call-in radio will have plenty of material to cover their daily slot. Matthew better hope that a flock of divas don’t put sugar in his tank and spay-paint the word IDIOT across the hood. Just because you have a fetish for all women, does not give you a ghetto pass to make comments regarding the Black Queen and not receive a backlash of negative response. You are a sexy man Matthew, but you lost cool points on that one………

Jamie Foxx Practices Literal Insanity for The Soloist

Could this be why Jamie Foxx went in on Miley Cyrus and later apologized? With any actor, it’s always a plus when he or she can completely dedicate themselves to a role, but Mr. Foxx may have put himself out there a little too much. According to the Oscar winner, it got to the point where he nearly lost his mind playing real life homeless schizophrenic cello prodigy Nathanial Ayers in the upcoming film The Soloist. “You had to lose your mind every day you're on set, and sometimes you didn’t have enough time to get your mind back before the weekend,” Foxx told EUR’s Lee Bailey. “I just remember calling my manager like, ‘I know what it is; I know why he's crazy!’ And my manager's like, ‘Foxx? Are you okay?’ I said, ‘No, no, no! He does this because of this, he does that because of this, and I'm gonna go crazy, and I'm gonna lose everything, and I'm gonna be homeless, but I'm gonna be able to play the piano great…’[My manager] says, ‘Foxx, I'm on my way over.’” Despite believing that actors don’t need their own therapists while filming difficult roles, Foxx ended up taking his manager and agent’s suggestion that he talk to a psychiatrist, “just so you'll have a way to get out of your head,” they said, according to the actor. As a result, Foxx is sold on bringing in a therapist when the need exists. “I had no idea that the mind could be that fragile,” he said.

"The Soloist" (2009)

In "The Soloist," a drama about the redemptive power of music, journalist Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.) discovers Nathaniel Anthony Ayers (Jamie Foxx), a former classical music prodigy, playing his violin on the streets of L.A. As Lopez endeavors to help the homeless man find his way back, a unique friendship is formed, one that transforms both their lives.

To see how crazy Jamie gets, be sure to check out The Soloist when it arrives in theaters on April 24.
